Sometimes we are surprised by the companies that are producing technology for healthcare; and while the brand name Rubbermaid conjures images of wastebaskets, buckets, practical items for the home or maybe commercial applications, it likely doesn't stick out in our minds as a manufacturer of healthcare devices. While at HIMSS 2015, however, we discovered just what wonderful products Rubbermaid brings to the clinical space - especially with regard to nursing tasks and workflows. Turns out that Rubbermaid is just as durable and versatile in the healthcare arena as it is in our own homes, and with this episode it becomes readily apparent just what a great fit Rubbermaid is for the clinical environment

During HIMSS15 we were lucky to sit down with Health IT professionals that are busy every day trying to meet the needs of their healthcare organizations. Our guest participated in the panel "IT as a Stragic Imperative for Healthcare Providers  in the Digital, Mobile age" sponsored by Citrix.

The panel description: Join Citrix and our guest panel as we explore how some of the most innovative health systems are leveraging mobility, virtualization, and cloud services to gain the agility and efficiency needed to unleash innovation and create a more patient-centered healthcare approach in order to succeed in today’s changing healthcare landscape.

We ventured out on the show floor for "Day 2" of the HIMSS conference and after surviving a concert like rush at the gates to the Exhibit Hall, we caught up for a brief chat with Jeff Fountaine of Honeywell for some insight into their efforts to make life easier on clinicians.  (To Kelley's delight)

In no other industry is having what you need when you need it more important, none-the-less many of us will be surprised at what level logistics organizations can play a part in healthcare delivery.  It goes beyond, just getting implants, medications, tests and other necessary healthcare components where they need to be.  They must be "handled with care" to the extreme.  From "chain of custody" to "cryogenic" technologies, how these healthcare related packages arrive matters.

Robin Hooker of UPS joins us to discuss how UPS implements their "It's a patient, not a package" philosophy.

Nationally we have been made well aware of veterans support programs like Wounded Warrior and Veterans Employment and Training (VETS). Our guest for this episode, former U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Amy R. Justice, brings to light another brilliant support program being offered through the Healthcare Information and Management Services Society (HIMSS). Veterans Career Services (VCS) is a comprehensive program designed to help veterans transition from military service to gainful civilian employment in the progressive and growing field of healthcare information technology.

If you are a veteran, you can learn how to access these services or become a "V Mentor" to help fellow veterans.

If you are not a veteran, learn how your organization can take part in the worthy endeavor to help veterans bring their talents to this important career field.
