In 1956 the first practical implementation of a paging system was setup to pager physicians in New York. Fast forward 60 years and pagers seem to be making healthcare their final stand. The modern healthcare environment is much more demanding and complex than in 1956. Alerts from clinical systems, order notifications from the EMR and messages between clinicians not only need to be routed properly, they need to be acknowledged.
