Far too often Healthcare providers aren’t talking to each other – patients don’t know this. If you visit the ER, does your Primary Care Physician have a clue, does your dialysis provider? Are you sure?

In this episode we are joined by Joseph Mayer, MD. He is the co-founder and CEO of Cureatr, which provides seamless communication between doctors, streamlined workflows and real-time mobile push notifications to alert care providers when their patients are treated in any care setting within their region.

Joe's inspiration to start Cureatr came during his residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. Immersed in the fast-paced ER, he lived the time-delay frustration of tracking down primary care physicians to alert them about patient treatment. He knew that he could speed this communication, reduce admin work to save time, human resources and dollars.

Joe launched the pilot for Cureatr while at Mt. Sinai and his quick expansion, with a national presence on the near horizon, coincided with the seismic healthcare shift of fee-for-service to value-based. Healthcare providers, in this new landscape of risk and responsibility, need a seamless approach for better care coordination among a community of care providers.

Do we now have the tools to fight the effects of aging, dementia, or even Alzheimer's? In this episode we discuss Cognitive Health with Dr. Raj Kumar, Chief Medical Officer of MyCognition.

Cognition, defined briefly as the ability to think, learn, respond, and remember, is a crucial issue in healthcare today because of an increasingly aging population and diagnoses of dementia, attention disorders, learning disorders, and anxiety at all-time highs.

What is your CQ? MyCQ™, short for cognition quotient, is an assessment tool developed by UK company MyCognition for measuring cognitive functioning. It is the mission of MyCognition to measure and improve cognitive health.  In addition to its MyCQ assessment tool, MyCognition brings a range of training products that have been specifically developed to enhance the thinking, learning and memory processes.  Learn about how this exciting technology is showing cognitive health improvements in schools, workplaces, and the healthcare sector.

With all the sophisticated technologies we are implementing, supporting or looking forward to in the future it is easy to maybe overlook the "routine". We have all learned though, complacency regarding the "routine" can often get people hurt.  In fact an entire career field was launched over concerns that thousands of patients were being harmed due to electrical shocks from the very medical equipment that was meant to help them.  Our guest Matt Baretich, author of the latest AAMI Electrical Safety Manual, joins us for an interview recorded "Live" at AAMI 2015.

40 episodes in 15 months!  And we're happy to be featuring Philips, who for 40 years has been providing remote patient monitoring technology.  Technology that started as the LifeAlert program and has been expanded to help deliver solutions for many of the issues and interests in healthcare today: aging in place, medical home, chronic disease management... Even big data and data analytics, as Philips has been collecting data from monitored patient populations for many years and are now able to mine that data in meaningful ways.  We are joined in this episode by those who have helped grow patient monitoring applications and give clinical significance to more than just the physiological readings monitoring systems collect.

Many of us know the many challenges of managing our printing and document imaging systems.  The impact financially and to our workflow can often me underestimated.  As Many organizations have made it a major initiative to cut down on printing, as an environmental, financial and workflow improvment measure.  RICOH has positioned itself as a technology company that understands healthcare and builds devices and programs with the understanding that healthcare will likely never be paperLESS... But can be paperLIGHT.  This episode explores how better devices and better programs within the healthcare space can expedite and improve communication, as well as improve workflows and even the provider experience.

Sometimes we are surprised by the companies that are producing technology for healthcare; and while the brand name Rubbermaid conjures images of wastebaskets, buckets, practical items for the home or maybe commercial applications, it likely doesn't stick out in our minds as a manufacturer of healthcare devices. While at HIMSS 2015, however, we discovered just what wonderful products Rubbermaid brings to the clinical space - especially with regard to nursing tasks and workflows. Turns out that Rubbermaid is just as durable and versatile in the healthcare arena as it is in our own homes, and with this episode it becomes readily apparent just what a great fit Rubbermaid is for the clinical environment

PingMD is an integrative platform that establishes an efficient and structured dialogue between patients and their providers, and providers and their colleagues, using a secure app that captures photos, videos, and text conversations; enabling patients to submit relevant information to their providers for immediate feedback, as well as allowing multiple providers - or the care team - to instantly consult with each other toward an immediate solution to patient care needs.  Children's Hospital of Orange County has partnered with PingMD in utilizing its solution for the last year, giving us the customer perspective on this dynamic product.
